I've just returned after some years of exile. Coincidentally several people mentioned Elvis to me in the last couple of weeks, which, for a semiotican, is a sign that a theme is activated! So here I am again...
Here's what's been happening with me: I'm now Senior Lecturer (yippeeee!) I spent a year at Caltech in the US as advisor in integrating writing and communication within the science curriculum across faculties. Great experience but I'm gald it's over - too intense and serious for my tastes.
I now have three books out: Professional Writing, Communication Studies and Narrative Dimensions of Philosophy.
I've done some with with Stu Marshall in Comp 301 over the last two years, working with the user manual component of the course - very interesting (yes, I do get excited by well-written user manuals...:-)
I've also done some work with the World Transhumanist Association (WTA) on some projects. We're bringinging out a Special Edition of the Journal of Evilution and Technology called "Becoming more than human;Technology and the posthuman condition". This will be out around September. I'll post the link.
Check out my web page some day:

I'm open to suggestions for new projects, meetings, discussions etc,

Hi All,
I've just published an article in the Journal of Evolution and Technology about the role of meaning in human communication. I pinpointed some areas of communication that are especially problematic for AI designers. Some of you may be interested in having a look:

Do let me know what you think if you do read it.
